Social Security

A great challenge we face today is the preservation of one of our country’s most important social safety-nets: the Social Security system. As one of the most enduring programs of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal, this system has provided workers and their families a guaranteed base of financial security in their retirement years since its inception more than 70 years ago. I am committed to strengthening Social Security because it provides an important guarantee of financial support for hardworking Americans in their golden years.

All entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, are critically important programs and integral parts of the social compact between hard working Americans that must be preserved and protected. Though the solvency of Social Security is a long-term concern, it does not merit rash, dangerous solutions. Social Security should not be privatized, and I will never stop fighting to protect the basic concepts on which it was founded under the New Deal.
